The Woolworths Melbourne South Regional Distribution Centre (MSRDC) took home the National Award for Development Innovation at the Property Council’s Innovation & Excellence awards ceremony, last Friday 17 May 2019.
Proudly built by ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø, Managing Director Andrew Noble attended the awards ceremony with the Charter Hall and Woolworths teams.
The Award for Development Innovation recognises innovation that creates significant advancement and improvement within a development.
Located in Lyndhurst Victoria, MSRDC is positioned on a 15.9 hectare site owned by Charter Hall and leased to Woolworths. The 70,000m² $560m purpose-built distribution centre and corporate office is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
The MSRDC sets a national benchmark for the supermarket and retail industry through its innovative design, automation technology featured and operational efficiencies.
The facility houses a fully automated 45 metre tall highbay that has capacity for 60,000 pallets and the ability to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Inclusive of more than 14 kilometres of high-speed conveyors, multi-story racking systems, robotics technology, advanced sorting systems, the distribution centre provides Woolworths with the capacity to sort and distribute stock at far greater levels of accuracy and at a pace not yet seen in traditional warehousing operations in the country.
Installation of innovative IT applications connecting the distribution centre directly with in-store point of sale software, means stock orders are automatically tailored to the specific needs of individual stores. Picking and packing technology allow for cartons and pallets to be loaded onto trucks in the correct sequence required in-store.
Congratulations to Charter Hall, Woolworths, Vanderlande, TM Insight and all of the dedicated consultants, subcontractors and suppliers that were involved in this award-winning project.
